The Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company was founded by Horace and John Dodge in 1914, following-on from their successful bicycle and automotive parts manufacturing business. A touring car, a roadster and a four-door sedan all followed in quick succession and were all a favourite with customers. In 1928, the business was sold to the rapidly expanding Chrysler Corporation and in 1984, Dodge really made its mark in the history books with the introduction of the tremendously popular Caravan, which was ideal for families and able to seat seven. The Caravan started a whole new personal car segment, the minivan or as the class is called in the UK - the People Carrier.
Dodge came under the wing of the German-based Daimler-Benz as part of the Daimler-Chrysler merge, which brought much sought-after German technology into Dodge manufacturing processes.
